Empowering Divers to Engage in Coral Conservation First-Hand.

Would you like the opportunity to grow, monitor, and outplant corals on Roatan’s reef? Good news - Roatan Divers is a proud purveyor of the Roatan Marine Park’s Coral Restoration Certification, which gives you the chance to do just that!

The Coral Restoration Project was designed to conserve and restore threatened coral species amongst Roatan’s reef. Fragments of Opportunity are collected from multiple genotypes of both Elkhorn (Acropora palmata) and Staghorn (Acropora cervicornis) Corals, which are then attached to trees in the Coral Nursery until they are able to be out-planted on the reef.

Course Breakdown

Day 1 begins with an afternoon classroom session focused on coral ecology, stressors, and the procedures we use to maintain the trees, outplant the corals, and monitor their growth.

Day 2 consists of two morning dives on the 9:00 AM and 11:30 AM boats. The first dive is a visit to the Coral Nursery, and the second dive is to the outplant site. Once successfully completed, you will be issued your RMP Coral Restoration card and be certified to continue with any volunteer efforts you wish.

Course Cost: $200 including all Equipment, Dives, Taxes, and Credit Card Fees if Applicable. Minimum of 2 Participants.

Pro Tip: Good buoyancy is essential for cleaning and out planting the corals to ensure no fragments or reef get damaged. We recommend completing the Peak Performance Buoyancy Dive to ensure you are at your best during this course.
